TUSCALOOSA – The Troy State Trojans men’s golf team concluded play in the Conrad Rehling Alabama Invitational on Sunday, finishing in 12th place overall with a final score of 941.

Troy State trailed both South Alabama and Memphis heading into the final round of play, but managed to erase deficits of three and nine shots to each team. The nine strokes to Memphis was the largest lead that TSU has come back from this season.

What was particularly impressive about the Trojans’ comeback was that the squad faced wind gusts of 25 miles per hour and a temperature of 40 degrees on Sunday morning.

"We started off in a bad situation with the weather," TSU head golf coach Barney Barnett said on Sunday. " I figured if we kept it under 320 today we would be in good shape (to catch South Alabama and Memphis). This is a tough course."

Ryan Campbell continued to pace the Trojans with a 79-71-81-231 total and finish in a tie for 31st. Campbell recorded three nines at par or better in the final two days.

After taking a week off, the Trojans will return to action on April 2-3, when they travel to Anniston for the JSU/Young Oil Intercollegiate.

"We should be able to compete better up there," said Barnett of TSU’s chances on the Silver Lakes Golf Course. "It will be a good tune-up for the TAAC Championship in two weeks."
