Troy State opens conference play with Mercer

The Troy State baseball team goes on the road to Macon this weekend to play Trans America Athletic Conference opponent Mercer at Claud Smith Field on Friday and Saturday.

The three-game series will open up conference play for the Trojans, who are 11-8 going into the weekend. Troy State is coming off of a 1-3 appearance at the Texas-Pan American Tournament. They picked up their only win in the first game of the weekend, 14-4, on Thursday against Big 10 opponent Penn State, and then fell to UTPA in the next game, 4-2. The Trojans were also defeated in the next day of play by Penn State, 13-3, and once again by UTPA on Saturday, 9-6.

The Bears (14-8, 0-3 TAAC) opened conference play last weekend at home against Jacksonville (14-6, 3-0 TAAC), who currently leads the league. The Dolphins swept Mercer in three games, 12-3, 6-4, and 5-2. Mercer also fell to Georgia College, 12-5, on Tuesday.

First pitch is set for 1 p.m. (EST) on Friday. The first game of Saturday’s doubleheader is also scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Trojans play two games against McNeese State on Mar. 20-21 in Lake Charles, La., before returning to Troy on Mar. 23-24 for a two game series against Jacksonville State
