Fire gutted one business and damaged another on U.S. 231 Monday morning.

Lt. Ed Brown of the Troy Fire Department said Cash 2 Go was a total loss and C & K Nail Salon had "minor damage" as a result of a fire reported a little after 7 a.m.

Yesterday’s rain made it difficult to fully investigate the scene, said Brown, who will be back at the business strip this morning.

"All we know, right now, is there was a fire," Brown said of the little information available Monday afternoon.

At one point Monday, there was talk the fire could have been connected to a burglary, but that has not been determined.

Sgt. Benny Scarbrough, public information officer for the Troy Police Department, said the fire does not appear to be connected to a burglary, although other businesses in that vicinity were burglarized over the weekend.

He said detectives with the police department will continue working with the Troy Fire Department during the ongoing investigation.

"It’s still under investigation because more than one business was affected," Scarbrough said.

Fire officials will return to the fire scene today to sift through the debris in an effort to find a cause of the blaze.

Cash 2 Go was located at 1003 B Highway 231 South. The nail salon’s address is 1003 A Highway 231.
