Trojans’ Taylor holds of Wildcats

David Taylor went 3-for-4 and drove in one run as the Charles Henderson High School Trojans escaped weekend raindrops and a furious late rally on the road to defeat the Enterprise High School Wildcats 6-2 in local baseball action early Friday night.

The Wildcats took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first before the Trojans rallied scoring five runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead for good to earn the victory.

In the top of the third, the Trojans scored one run when Roderick Burden walked and reached third on a pair of ground outs before Kevin Stephens delivered an RBI single to cut the deficit to 2-1.

In the top of the fifth, the Trojans began taking control of the game when Burden scored on RBI single by Jason Barron to tie the game at 2-2. One batter later, Justin Sims reached on an error scoring Will Jones to give CHHS a one-run lead. Taylor, Clint Pugh and Scott Stetson capped the rally with consecutive RBI singles to give the Trojans all the runs they needed.

With a 15 mph breeze blowing in between the center and right field, the Trojans used a disciplined approach to the the plate as they put together eight singles to score all six runs.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Wildcats loaded the bases with one out before Taylor came in striking out the final two batters to finish the game for the Trojans. Stephens earned the win going 6 1/3 innings allowing just two runs on five walks while walking two and striking out four batters.

The Trojans (8-3) return to action this afternoon when they host Opp. The first pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Frazier Field on the CHHS campus.
