Area tournaments get started today

Area tournament play for the Alabama High School Athletic Association starts tonight and continues on into Saturday.
The Class 2A No. 3 Goshen Eagles will be the only team in Pike County hosting their area tournament. Both the girl’s and boy’s teams from Charles Henderson and Pike County will have to travel to their respective tournaments. The Lady Eagles (5-13) will also be on the road at Highland Home, facing the No. 10 Lady Tigers of Red Level in first round action.
On Saturday at 6:30 p.m., the Eagles (18-2) will play the winner of Thursday night’s Georgiana-Highland Home contest, tipping off the Class 2A Area 2 Tournament.
The Pike County girl’s team will in Elba for the Class 3A Area 2 Girl’s Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs (9-12) will play Calhoun on Friday at 4:30 p.m., with Luverne taking the court at 6:30 p.m. to play host-Elba.
The Bulldogs (9-15) will have to travel to Calhoun, playing Elba at 6 p.m. The winner of that game will play the winner of Calhoun-Luverne, which will follow at 7:30 p.m.
The Trojans of Charles Henderson (12-9) tied with Eufaula for the Class 5A Area 4 championship, but lost the coin toss that decided who would host the area tournament. CHHS will play Carroll-Ozark on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
The Lady Trojans will play the Lady Tigers of Carroll prior to the start of the boy’s game on Saturday.
