2A Goshen moves up to third

The Goshen Eagles have moved up to third place in this week’s Class 2A ASWA boys basketball poll released on Thursday by the Birmingham News.

The Eagles have lost just two games this season, avenging one of those losses on Tuesday night at Red Level. The win over the Tigers gave the Eagles the Class 2A Area 2 Title and the right to host the area tournament.

Goshen has been in the ASWA Class 2A poll since the beginning of the season.

No boys team is still unbeaten although Bibb County (20-1), Brooks (24-1) and Washington County (15-1). The Choctaws are ranked first in Class 4A, Brooks is fourth in 4A, and Washington County climbed to second in Class 3A this week.

On the girls’ side, Class 4A Elmore County (20-0) and Class 2A Susan Moore (19-0) are unbeaten.

Elmore County won its county tourney last weekend and is ranked sixth in this week’s 4A Top 10.

won the Blount County tournament and is ranked first in 2A.

In the AISA, Wilcox Academy, coached by Buddy Sumner, finished the regular season at 21-0.

Vincent (22-3) became the newest boys team to rank No. 1 in Class 2A.

Other leaders this week include: (Boys) in 6A, Auburn (24-3); in 5A, Lee-Huntsville (23-3); in 4A, Bibb County (20-1); in 3A, Phil Campbell (21-2); in 1A, Courtland (23-3); in the AISA, Tuscaloosa Academy (21-0). Other girls’ top teams include:

in 5A, Boaz (24-2); in 4A, Lawrence County (24-3); in 1A, Autaugaville (22-1); and in the AISA, Faith Academy (19-1).

The AISA will conduct two regional tournaments next week, while the AHSAA begins area tournament play Feb. 9 and 10.
