OXFORD, Ala. – Josh Hayes scored 20 points and David Sanders added 11 to propel Ole Miss to a 92-65 win over Troy State in men’s basketball action on Monday night at Tad Smith Coliseum.

The 24th-ranked Rebels (9-0) smothered Troy State (2-6) from start to finish with physical pressure defense, forcing just 17 turnovers but holding the Trojans to 34 percent (22-65) shooting on the night and just 26 percent (7-27) from 3-point range.

The Rebels, meanwhile, didn’t miss often from 3-point range, hitting 11-of-17 in the first half and 14-of-34 for the game. They finished at 49 percent for the game from the floor (32-66).

"Ole Miss played a great game tonight," Troy State head coach Don Maestri said. "They had some guys hit shots who hadn?t been hitting them all year, but that seems to be the story of our season. They had a great shooting night and we didn’t."

The Trojans looked sharp early, fighting back from a nine-point deficit to tie the game 13-13 with 13 minutes remaining in the first half. A 20-4 Ole Miss run over the next four minutes pushed the game out of reach, however, and the Trojans never could rally.

The Rebels led 55-34 at halftime. In the second half, Troy State sliced its deficit to 16 twice in the first 11 minutes, but another 20-4 run by the Rebels all but sealed the final outcome. Ole Miss led by as many as 38 points before the Trojans.

Troy State was led in scoring by Robert Rushing’s 15 points. Jacova Jenkins added 12 and Lemayn Wilson and Derrick Davis 10 each. Ole Miss won the rebounding battle, 45-40.

Both teams will depart for Hawaii on Tuesday morning to play in the Yahoo! Sports Invitational in Laie, Hawaii. Troy State will face Iowa State in its first-round game on Thursday while Ole Miss faces Southern Illinois.

Tipoff for the Trojans is set for 1 p.m. CST. Streaming video and audio can be seen live at Yahoo.com. The Troy State broadcast can be heard live at www.liveonthenet.com.
