CHHS advances, Goshen and Lady Bulldogs eliminated

Three teams from Pike County entered the Girls’ Holiday Prep Classic in Dothan on Monday and as of late Tuesday night, only one team remained.

Charles Henderson senior shooting guard Kelly Miller helped hold Abbeville at bay with consecutive 3-pointers and added a layup with 1:38 remaining in the game, as CHHS downed the Lady Yellowjackets, 51-45 in opening round action on Tuesday night.

It was the second time this season, CHHS has defeated Abbeville. The Lady Trojans won the first match-up between the two schools on Nov. 17.

The Lady Jackets had pulled within two points of the lead at 33-31 in the third quarter when Miller sank back-to-back 3-pointers. She finished with four trey’s on the night and 15 points. Miller’s layup, in the fourth quarter, gave the Lady Trojans a 46-40 lead.

Jenean Deveridge led CHHS with 16 points and was followed by Miller’s 15 and Clarissa Parker’s 13.

Both Goshen and Pike County made an early exit in the tournament, with the Lady Bulldogs falling big to Dothan, 52-28, and the Lady Eagles being trounced by Malone High School of Florida, 73-36.

Wennica Foster led Pike County’s scoring effort with 12 points, while Deedee Rogers had eight for the Lady Bulldogs.

Eunique Williams was the leader in Goshen’s contest against Malone, leading all scorers with 21 points.

Dothan advanced to face Charles Henderson late Wednesday night, while Malone played Geneva County.
