CHMS basketball enjoys successful week with victories

In Charles Henderson Middle School action last week the girls’ team remained unbeaten (8-0) with victories over Andalusia last Tuesday night and D.A. Smith of Ozark on Thursday. The CHMS seventh and eighth grade boys’ went 3-1 during the week, with the seventh graders dropping a 30-23 decision to D.A. Smith.

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs came into the game also unbeaten but were handed a 34-27 defeat by the CHMS Lady Trojans. Quoya DuBose and Mary Peyton Gilbert led a balanced scoring attack, each finishing with six points. Samantha Johnson, Whitney Youngblood and Malerie Sanders each had four points for the Lady Trojans. Andalusia was led by Ashley Johnson’s 11 points.

In the seventh grade game, the Trojans won 39-36 thanks to some last minute clutch free throw shooting. Jared Loftin led CHMS with 16 points, followed by Zaccheus Etheridge’s 10. The eighth graders beat Andalusia 32-16, led by Quavian Lewis, who had 11, and Martesi Carlisle, who had five points.

Against D.A. Smith on Thursday, the seventh graders lost 30-23. Jahakenda Fayson and Loftin had six points, with Brett Williams contributing five points. The CHMS eighth grade team won handidly, 46-30, with Lewis scoring 22 points and Carlisle finishing second with six.

The Lady Eagles came into the game against CHMS

with an 0-7 mark and the final score was indicative of that. The Lady Trojans won easily 30-3. Henderson led 10-0 after the first quarter and 17-0 at the half. Johnson recorded a double-double, pulling down 10 points and 10 rebounds. Deana Canty had six points and DuBose had four points for the Lady Trojans.

Charles Henderson Middle School was next in action on Monday night in Greenville against the Tigers. On Monday, Dec. 11 the Trojans will travel to play D.A. Smith in Ozark and will return to Troy on Thursday, Dec. 14 to play Coppinville.
