Troy State’s Michael Green, a senior from Lancashire, England, is traveling to Ames, Iowa, Monday to compete in the National Cross Country Championships.

This will be the second time in Green’s career to qualify for this prestigious meet. He qualified in 1998, where he ran the course in 32:08, which earned him 99th place in a field of 250 of the best runners in the nation.

In the TAAC cross country meet Green ran away with the individual title winning by 35 seconds. This was the third consecutive time Green accomplished this goal.

This past week Green qualified for the championships by placing fourth overall (31:01) in the district meet. Last year’s NCAA cross country champion David Kimani from the University of Alabama won the race, and will try to reclaim his title again this year. Green will be running to place in the top 30, which would give him All-America honors.

Green has already been recognized as an Academic All-American. He received this award by maintaining a 3.98 grade point average in sports and fitness management.
