Lady Trojans win final exhibition over Wrath

The twin towers of Tomekia Golatte and Thea Herring combined for 33 points and 30 rebounds to lead the Lady Trojans over the Alabama Wrath in their final exhibition game, 81-67.
Herring had 22 points and 18 rebounds with Golatte coming off the bench, scoring 11 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.
"Thea played really well tonight," said Troy State head coach Jerry Hester, "and Tomekia came off the bench and gave us some good minutes. Those two were monsters on the boards tonight."
Troy State took the lead early, jumping out to an 18-10 lead, on a Herring putback. The Lady Trojans took their biggest lead of the half on a three-point play by Herring to take a 21-12 lead with just over 12 minutes left in the first half.
The Wrath would come down upon the Lady Trojans, as they made a 11-2 run to tie the game at 26 with six and half minutes left in the half, and took the lead on a Megan Thompson free throw.
The two teams battled back and forth at the end of the half, with Golatte’s jumper at the end of the half giving Troy State a 38-37 lead.
The Wrath came out for and tied the score quickly in the second half on a Ladrina Sanders three pointer, to notch the score at 40. But that was as close as the Wrath would come again. Troy State went on a 10-3 run to take a 50-43 lead with just under 16 minutes left in the game.
Troy State would pour it on from there, going on a 37-16 run, to take their biggest lead of the game at 77-61 with just under three minutes remaining. The Lady Trojans would cruise in the rest of the way, picking up the win, 81-67.
Sanders led the Wrath with 21 points and 11 rebounds, with Regina Stowes pitching in with 16 points and 14 boards.
Freshman Laura Schwendeman had 11 points for the Lady Trojans, with Kira McWaine scoring eight points, while dishing out eight assists.
The Lady Trojans open their season Friday night at Trojan Arena, as they face off against Centenary. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
