TROY -The State football team had a two-hour, full-pad practice in the untimely heat on Tuesday. The Trojans worked on full contact drills, keeping their fundamentals sharp for Sam Houston State on Saturday.

The Trojans (4-2,1-1) will travel to Huntsville, Texas, on Saturday to take on the Bearkats (5-1, 2-0). Kickoff is set 7 p.m. at Bowers Stadium.

"We worked on their defense. They have such varying styles of defense that they will throw something new at you every time you step on the field against them," said head football coach Larry Blakeney on Tuesday.

The Trojans, after having a great defensive outing against Southwest Texas this past Saturday, look to prepare the offense to see more time on the field.

"Sam Houston’s offense feeds off of big offensive plays," said Blakeney.

The Trojans also don’t want to forget about wide receiver Matt Dominguez, who raked in 11 catches for 289 yards and four touchdowns for Sam Houston last Saturday against Southland foe Stephen F. Austin.

"They have a core group of very good receivers coupled together with an experienced quarterback," said Blakeney. "We have to key on Dominguez. He is a prolific receiver who thrives off big plays."

Blakeney also made sure that the Trojans spent time on their special teams Tuesday.

"They are very good at blocking punts and kicks," said Blakeney. "We just have to make sure we pick up our blocking assignments and keep from making costly errors in the kicking game."
