Jacksonville drops Lady Trojans, 3-0

JACKSONVILLE – The Troy State soccer team (2-12, 0-7 TAAC) fell to Trans America Athletic Conference opponent Jacksonville (15-1, 7-0 TAAC) 3-0 on Sunday at Ashley Sports Complex.

The Dolphins scored two goals in the opening half of game, with Crystal Armstrong (31:32) opening up the scoring and then following up with another goal with three minutes left in the half. Stine Kloster added the final goal for Jacksonville in the 75th minute of the game off a pass from Marit Foss.

Senior Melanie Russell, a native of Pelham, Ala., led the Lady Trojans offensively with the squad’s only two shots of the day. Jessica Murphy, junior goalkeeper from Daphne, Ala., helped out on defense with nine saves in 90 minutes for Troy State.

The Lady Trojans continue conference play on the road in Macon, Ga., on Wednesday at 2 p.m. when they face Mercer. Troy State plays its next home match on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Thomas.
