Roy Adulphus Beard, 92, of Troy died Thursday, October 12, 2000 at Pike Manor.

His funeral will be held at 3 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000 at the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home of Troy. Elders J.P. Morgan and Don Smith will be officiating, and Dillard Funeral Home will be directing.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2000, at the Dillard Funeral Home of Troy. Mr. Beard will be buried in the Hopewell Cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Charlyn Beard and Frank Doty of Niceville, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, Benny and Joan Beard of Troy; five grandchildren, Sheri Doty Ridnouer of Mannassas, Va., Carmen Beard Cox of Memphis, Tenn., Stephanie Beard Wilson of Memphis, Tenn., Kimi Doty Cottmeyer of Auburn, Ga., and Stacey Beard of Troy; eight great-grandchildren, Andrew Justin Ridnouer of Mannassas, Va., Zachery Michael Cottmeyer of Auburn, Ga., Luke Alexander Ridnouer of Mannassas, Va., Daniel Frank Cottmeyer of Auburn, Ga., Mae Elise Cox of Memphis, Tenn., Mark Nathaniel Ridnouer of Mannassas, Va., Olivia Wood Wilson of Memphis, Tenn., Benjamin Christopher Cox of Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters, Louise Beard Calhoun of Troy, Mary Edna Beard Shirley of Troy, and Hazel Beard Pouncey of Troy.

Mr. Beard was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Gladys French Beard and a son, Roy King Beard.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.

Visitation will be held fron 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000 at Dillard Funeral Home of Troy.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Cecil Griffin

Cecil Griffin, 91, of Brundidge died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000.

Services will be at 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 16, 2000 at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Bishop Carl McComb and the Rev. K.D. Marsh Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Bell’s Liptrot/Dawson Funeral Home directing.

The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service.

Ollie Anson Hood

Ollie Anson Hood, 86, of Troy died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000 at his home.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 16, 2000 at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy. A private graveside service will be held at a later date with Dr. Harold Wicks and Dr. Ed Walter officiating and Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing.

Mr. Hood was a member of First Baptist Church of Troy and the Baracca Sunday school class. He was a lifetime member of Kiwanis International and a member of the local Kiwanis Club in Troy for 37 years and a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge #905 of Waterville, Maine. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of the Retired Officers Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6924 in Fairfield, Main;, 43rd Division Veterans Association; Sunbelt Chapter 43rd Division Veterans Association, Fort Rucker Chapter; 103rd Infantry Veterans Association; Company G 103rd Infantry Veterans Association; Pike County Retired Teachers Association and the Alabama Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Chancey Hood of Troy; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Anson and Mary Hood of Trussville; granddaughter, Lara Lee Hood of Cullman; three daughters and son-in-law: Frances Sandra Hood of Montgomery, Marlene and Billy Wilson of Sarasota, Fla. and Brenda Accola of New Jersey; four other grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers: Vernal Hood, Perley Hood, Walter Hood and Erle Hood; one brother-in-law, Robert Chancey of Pine Level.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice or a favorite charity.

Shelton Davis

Shelton Davis, 84, of Rt. 1 Troy, died Friday, October 13, 2000 at his residence.

His funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Skeen Funeral Home Chapel in Troy with the Rev. Mack Lowery officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Skeen Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Survivors include wife Conradine Davis of Troy; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jean and Harold Wilkins of Troy, Gloria and Paul grant of Port Orange, Fla.; grandsons David and Sharon Wilkins of Alabaster, Danny and Kim Wilkins of Troy, Donald and Sandra Wilkins of Lawrenceville, Ga., Douglas and Melissa Wilkins of Troy, Jeff Grant of Port Orange, Fla.; granddaughters Pam and Chuck Coda of Plant City, Fla., Tracie Grant of Port Orange, Fla.; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters Irene Weeks of Bay Minette, Ala., Mable Tillery of Talladega, Julia Jones of Troy; half-brothers Norris Davis of Jacksonville, Fla., Morris Davis of Montgomery; and James B. Layton of Jacksonville.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Dorothy "Dot" Gladean Beach Phillips

The funeral service for Dorothy "Dot" Gladean Beach Phillips, 77, of Andalusia will be held at 2 p.m. today at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel in Andalusia with burial following in the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home of Andalusia handling arrangements.

Suvivors include sons and daughters-in-law Allen and Joy Phillips of Luverne, Michael and Teresa Phillips of Troy; daughter and son-in-law Helen and R.D. Brooks of Andalusia; brothers-in-law James Royland Phillips and Carlton Phillips of Andalusia; grandchildren Robbyn Brooks, Justin Brooksm Joshua Phillips, Lacey Phillips and Nathan Phillips; and cousin Charles Huebner of Saginaw, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alcus J. Phillips.

James L. "Jim" Halley

James L. "Jim" Halley, 58, of Troy, died Thursday, October 12, 2000.

His funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at Brooks-Cargile Funeral Home in Montgomery with the Rev. Fred Fuller officiating. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, October 16, 2000 at Live Oak Cemetery in Crestview, Fla.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Halley of Troy; daughter and son-in-law, Julie H. and John Garrett of Carrollton, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, James L. and Kara T. Haley, II, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; granddaughter Jennifer Elizabeth Garrett of Carrollton, Ga.; mother Clara E. Halley of Baker, Fla.; sisters Nancy Chessher of Crestview, Fla., and Sandra Foster of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.

Jim was a dedicated funeral director for 41 years working in Crestview, Fla., Troy, Auburn and Montgomery where he assisted in opening Brooks-Cargile Funeral Home.

He was devoted to his family and the families he served.

Active and honorary pallbearers will be fellow funeral directors.

Mattie L. Gibson

Mattie L. Gibson, 79, of Luverne, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000 at her residence.

Her funeral was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000 at the chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Wilkes officiating. Interment followed at Hopewell Cemetery. Turner Funeral Home of Luverne handled arrangements.

Survivors include five children, Willie Ann Golden and Billy Gibson of Glenwood, Paul Gibson of Greenville, Tommy Gibson of Mobile and James Duncan of Brantley; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Christin Moncrief, Mary Walker and Lena Walker, all of Glenwood.
