SMCA smacks Cougars

South Montgomery County Academy’s defense held Crenshaw Christian to just 36 yards in the first half and quarterback John Andrews threw for four touchdowns as the Raiders crushed the Cougars 59-0 Friday night.
SMCA’s first possession was a 75 yard, six play drive capped off by an Andrews to Stephen Bozeman 42 -yard TD pass. Paul Ramirez kicked the PAT. SMCA led 7- 0 with 7:34 to go in the first quarter.
Alex Long and Rick Hall combined for three straight sacks and CCA was then forced to punt from their own endzone. It took the Raiders only five plays to score again. Hunter Royal rushed in from 19-yards out.
SMCA led 13-0 with 3:29 to go in the first.
It took less then one minute for SMCA to score again. Ramirez picked off a Cougar pass and returned it 28-yards for the score giving the Raiders a 19-0 first quarter.
The Raiders got on the board again early in the second. The 58-yard drive took six plays with Andrews hitting Ramirez from 30-yards out for the score. Ramirez kicked the PAT making the score 26-0.
SMCA would score one more time before halftime. This time Andrews hit Royal for the 22-yard TD pass. The PAT was good. SMCA led 33-0 at halftime.
CCA opened the second half by trying an onside kick but gave the ball to SMCA inside the 50-yard line. SMCA scored in only four plays as Andrews passed to Royal for a 27 yard touchdown. SMCA led 39-0 with 10:39 to go in the third.
SMCA would score again as Ramirez picked off his second interception of the night and returned it 70 yards to the one-yard line. Rick Hall punched it in from there to make the score 45-0 with 9:13 left in the third.
Lee Kelly scored from two yards with 2:04 to go in the third period and freshman quarterback Ryne Rials threw a 16-yard TD pass to Stephen Bozeman to make the finial score 59-0.
Offensively, SMCA was led by QB John Andrews who completed 10 of 17 passes for 173 yards and four TDs. Hunter Royal caught six passes for 70 yards and rushed six times for 57 yards, scoring three touchdowns. SMCA finished the night with 386 yards of offense.
SMCA’s defense held CCA to just 144 yards rushing and no yards passing. Rick Hall and Alex Long led the team in tackles.
