PLAS falls to Monroe Academy

No.3 Monroe Academy held the Pike Liberal Arts School Patriots to just 163 total yards and cruised to a 40-0 victory on Friday night.

Leading the Volunteers’ defense was Bryan Kilpatrick, who had nine solo tackles and 10 assists. The Patriots’ talented running back duo of Bill Hughes and Scott Kirby gained just 53 yards combined on nine attempts and quarterback Layton Sanders was picked off twice by the Monroe Academy defense.

Monroe Academy quarterback K.J. Lazenby completed just three passes on the night, but two of the passes were for touchdowns. Lazenby threw for touchdown passes of 35 and 44 yards as the Volunteers ended the game with 345 yards of offense.

Justin Allred and Chris Majors led the Volunteers’ rushing attack. Allred had 83 yards on six carries, with a touchdown run of 40 yards. Majors added 77 yards on five carries and a touchdown.

The PLAS defense was led by Richard Long with six tackles, Will Williams with five and Kevin Watkins also with five.

Next week, the Patriots entertain Glenwood for homecoming.
