Arts and Humanities 2000-2001 season Saturday night with the First Exhibition of its Permanent Collection at Hunter’s Mountain Clubhouse.

Don Crapps, president of the Arts Council, said the kickoff event was very successful in the gathering of present arts council members and the introduction of new faces to the group.

"There were a lot of new people at the exhibition and we were encouraged by that," Crapps said. "We had a number of patrons to purchase season subscriptions, and we were proud to accept those, but that was not the purpose of the event. We just wanted to invite the community to join us for an evening of fellowship and entertainment. Everyone enjoyed the music of The Fabulous Shades and the facilities at Hunter’s Mountain are absolutely wonderful. The exhibition was well received and we would like for everyone to know that it will remain for at least 60 days and can be viewed during clubhouse hours."

The exhibition is a collection of artists’ works from the Jean Lake Festival with the exception of one piece which was donated by Troy artist, Alice Thornton.

"At each Jean Lake Festival, an arts council committee selects pieces of art for our collection and they are purchased with funds from a grant awarded by the Alabama Arts Council," Crapps said. "We have an outstanding collection and it is one well worth seeing."

The Arts Council’s subscription drive is underway and several choices of subscriptions are available.

For $75, an arts promoter will receive one ticket to all of the events on the season’s calendar and that could be a big ticket, Crapps said. A subscription guarantees admission to an event and there are several on the calendar that could be sellouts, beginning with the Oct. 16 production of "A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline" at the Crosby Theater.

Patron subscriptions for $85 to $149 also receive one season ticket; grand patron subscriptions for $150 to $249 receive two season tickets and benefactor subscriptions of $250 or more receive four season tickets.
