Verbie Louise McVay Hayes

Verbie Louise McVay Hayes, 91, of Birmingham died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000 at St. Martin’s -in-the-Pines in Birmingham.

Services will be at 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000 at Dillard Funeral Home Chapel in Brundidge with Dr. J. Albert Hall officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Brundidge with Dillard Funeral Home of Brundidge directing.

She was born Sept. 25, 1908 and was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Brundidge, where she was in the Dilla Lyon Sunday school class and the church choir. She was an accomplished dressmaker, enjoyed singing, gardening and baking. She lived in Pike County until incapacitated in 1987, when she moved to Birmingham.

Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law: Mary H. and Don Masterson of Annandale, Va., Minoise H. and Wade Chambers of Irving, Texas, Patsy H. and Rodger Russell of Wetumpka, Helen H. and Ken Traweek of Birmingham; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Barron of Troy; brother and sister-in-law, Davis and Elese McVay of Troy and two nephews of Troy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jordan and Minnie McVay; sister, Vera McVay Enzor; daughter, Sarah Louise Hayes and her husband of 55 years, Henry Grady Hayes.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home in Brundidge.
