SMCA rolls over Abbeville Christian

South Montgomery County Academy forced five turnovers and overcame a 10 to 7 halftime deficit to beat Abbeville Christian 30-10 Friday night in Abbeville.

Abbeville Christian scored on their first possession of the game when Mills Money broke lose for a 48-yard scoring run for an early 7-0 lead.

SMCA tied the score with 8:32 left in the second quarter on a John Andrews 29-yard pass to Michael Paul Durden. Paul Ramirez kicked the extra point.

ACA’s Jared Wofford kicked a 24-yard field goal to give the host team a 10-7 lead at the intermission.

SMCA’s defense opened the second half by recovering a ACA fumble on the 3-yard line. Rick Hall scored the go ahead touchdown with 10:27 to go in the third period of play.

ACA moved the ball to the SMCA 22-yard line only to have it taken away again. SMCA struck quickly on a 78-yard bomb from Andrews to Durden making the score 21-10.

Ramirez added to SMCA’s lead with a 31-yard field goal with 10:14 left in the fourth quarter.

Rick Hall added a two-yard touchdown late in the game to give SMCA their final margin of victory.

Andrews was 9/16 for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Hunter Royal completed 1/2 passes for 16 yards. Durden caught 2 passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Ramirez caught 4 passes for 26 yards.

Friday night SMCA will play Lakeside Academy. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. in Grady.
