TROY, Ala. – The Troy State soccer team lost 4-0 to LSU on Friday at Trojan Soccer Field in the season opener for both teams.
Kara Dean scored two goals for the Tigers in the first half, while Ashley Mitnick and and Elizabeth Marschall both had goals in the second half. Three of LSU’s goals came from corner kicks, with one goal scored off of a penalty shot in the second half.
Senior Jessica Murphy had 10 saves in 90 minutes while in goal, and freshman Lori McClendon had the only shot taken for the Lady Trojans.
"Our defense played hard today. LSU was just faster than us," Sheikh said. "We also lost our starting forward (Amanda Mason) to injury in the first minute of the game, who is not only a senior, but a team captain. That hurt us early on in the game."
Troy State will face Montevallo at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Trojan Soccer Field for the second match of the 2000 season.
