Gladys Williford Beard, 93, of Goshen died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000 at Edge Regional Medical Center.

Graveside services were held at 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Goshen with the Rev. W.O. Sanders officiating. Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directed.

Survivors include two nieces and their husbands, Glenda and Wiley Locklar of Troy and Julianne and Larry Rushing of Goshen; special friends, Louis and Lorraine Corley of Troy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Beard.

Foy D. Dennis

Foy D. Dennis, 90, of Troy died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000 at Pike Manor.

Services were held at 4:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 14, 2000 at Dillard Funeral Home Chapel in Troy with the Rev. Ken May and Amy L. Dennis officiating. Burial was at Green Hills Memorial Park in Troy with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing.

Mrs. Dennis was a local seamstress for many years and worked with her late husband as a house parent at the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home in Troy.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, J.D. "Sonny" and Betty J. Dennis of Marietta, Ga.; granddaughters, Laura Ann Hixon of Mobile and Amy L. Dennis of Marietta; sisters: Sarah Park of Troy, Mary Lizzie Conner of Troy, Mable Goldmon of Mobile and Tiny Bundy of Opelika.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Dennis.

Pallbearers will be Edgar Fannin, Bobby Park, Dennis Park, Keith Snyder, Joe Floyd and Wade McLendon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southside Baptist Church Building Fund of the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home.

Tom Bean Jr.

Tom Bean Jr., 61, of Decatur, Ga., formerly of Troy, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000 in an automobile accident.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 14, 2000 at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Orion with the Revs. Earnest Green and Carl Davis officiating. Burial was at Bethel A.M.E. Cemetery in Orion with George. F. Grubbs Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Bean was born June 5, 1939 in Troy to Tom and Alma Bean. He attended the local public schools. He was employed in the construction industry and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Jean Bean of Troy; four sons: Adrian Bean, Anthony Walker, Jimmie Walker and Kenny Walker, all of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Rose Bean of Troy; five sisters: Ocie Bean, Dorothy Jackson, Agertha (James) Berry, all of Troy, Thelma Foster of Savannah, Ga. and Wilma Gray of Philadelphia, Pa.; one uncle, Wilson Jackson of Dayton, Ohio; one aunt, Willie Mae Harris of Troy; several cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Friends of the family will serve as pallbearers and floralbearers.

Hazel Reynolds Meredith

Hazel Reynolds Meredith, 90, formerly of Troy, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000 in Montgomery after an extended illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000 at Skeen Funeral Home Chapel in Troy with the Rev. Tom Senn officiating. Burial will be at Sandfield Cemetery with Skeen Funeral Home of Troy directing.

Survivors include sons: R.E. Meredith, William M. Meredith and Robert Meredith, all of Banks; daughters: Ruby Powell of Troy, Jane Stearns and Jean Segrest, both of Montgomery; one brother, Grover Reynolds of Montgomery; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Ben Meredith and Charles Meredith and her husband, Dewey Meredith.

Mrs. Meredith was a member of Monticello Baptist Church and retired from Pike County High School.

Mary Bell Arrington

Mary Bell Arrington, 74, of Troy died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000 at her home.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000 at Sandfield Cemetery with Gray Funeral Home of Union Springs directing.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Arrington; three sons and daughters-in-law: Billy Ray Arrington of Corinth, Jack and Doris Arrington of Corinth, Don and Linda Arrington of Banks; one daughter, Debra Arrington Vincent of Phenix City; grandchildren: Deanna Gladem, Dedra Gladem, Jody Arrington, Timmy Arrington, Michael Arrington, Amanda Arrington, Cheryl Arrington, Kelly Groover and one great-grandchild, Justin Groover.

Pallbearers will be Jody Arrington, Timmy Arrington, Jimmy Green, Tommy Groover, Butch Lightner, Junior Lewis. Johnnie Lewis and Ronnie Williamson.
