Murkie Copeland, 88, of Troy died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000 at Edge Regional Medical Center.

Services will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000 at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. Johnathan Townsend and L.C. McMillian. Burial will be at the Community Cemetery in Brundidge with George F. Grubbs Funeral Home directing.

Ms. Copeland was born June 25, 1912 in Pike County to the late Lena Copeland. She was a member of Sweet Pilgrim Baptist Church and of the Seven Shape Singing Group.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, Mary Fielder and her husband, John; Mae Frye, Willie Fred Clark, Catherine Smith, Jean Williams, Emma Thompson, Valerie Rily and Colin Curry, all of New Jersey, William Curry of Jackson, Mich.; other relatives and friends.

Friends and family members will serve as pallbearers and floralbearers.

Bearther Lee Simmons

Bearther Lee Simmons, 98, of the Pronto Community died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000 at Pike Manor Nursing Home.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Banks with the Rev. Stevenson Tellis and Minister James Kennedy officiating. Burial will be at Big Creek Cemetery with George F. Grubbs Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Simmons was born June 16, 1903 in Cairo, Ga. to Samuel and Elizer Cruz Simmons. She was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church No. 2 in Banks.

She is survived by one son, Earnest Pearson of Brundidge; daughter-in-law, Addie Pearson of Clio; three grandsons and their wives: Donald and Denise Pearson, Arnold and Tameka Pearson, Ronald and Lashawn Pearson, all of Brundidge; seven great-grandchildren and several other relatives and friends.

Friends and relatives will serve as pallbearers and floralbearers.

Gladys Beard

Gladys Beard of Goshen died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000 at Edge Regional Medical Center.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Goshen with the Rev. W.O. Sanders officiating. Dillard Funeral Home of Troy is directing.

Survivors include two nieces and their husbands, Glenda and Wiley Locklar of Troy and Julianne and Larry Rushing of Goshen; special friends, Louis and Lorraine Corley of Troy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Beard.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Gordon Ross Barrett II

Gordon Ross Barrett II, 49, of Brundidge died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000 in a traffic accident in Pulaski, Tenn.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 14, 2000 at Dillard Funeral Home Chapel in Brundidge with the Rev. Robert Miller officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Barrett of Brundidge; children: Sarah Barrett, Jeremiah Barrett, Mary Barrett, Rachel Barrett, Bethany Barrett, Charity Barrett, Sharon Barrett, all of Brundidge, Ann Barrett of Glencoe, Minn. and Christy Gregg of Franklin, Ind.; parents, Gordon and Doris Barrett Sr. of Prescott, Mich.; brother, David Barrett of Hopkinville, Ky.; sister, Dawn Streeter of Prescott, Mich.; four grandchildren; six nieces and nephews.

Aletha Snyder

Aletha Snyder, 101, of Troy died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000 at her home.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000 at Dillard Funeral Home Chapel in Troy with Dr. Don Hatcher officiating. Burial will be at Green Hills Memorial Park in Troy with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing.

Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Brown of Troy; one son, Holroyd Howe of Michigan; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Snyder; daughter, Lelia Moore and son, Leo Howe.

Pallbearers will be Bert Brown, Billy Brown, Bobby Brown, Kenneth Brown, Louis Brown, Sam Brown and Steve Brown.
