TSU players in Birmingham

Troy, Ala. – The Southland Football League’s 2000 Kickoff Tour will complete the final of three legs in Birmingham on Friday afternoon, highlighting the eight-team preseason march, which begins Thursday in Houston and New Orleans.

Troy State head coach Larry Blakeney will represent the Trojans at the Civic Center Sheraton, along with junior quarterback Brock Nutter, senior fullback Thad Buttone, senior defensive lineman Tim Betts, senior offensive lineman Brent McAiley and senior safety Antonio Thompson.

Head coaches from all other league schools will be present as well, along with Jacksonville State coach Jack Crowe and contingent of Gamecock players.

The primary interview session will be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

"This is always a classy event and one that allows our league to showcase itself," Blakeney said. "We are excited about going back to Birmingham and about the turnout. Coming on the heels of the SEC Media Days, we hope to have a great crowd."

The Trojans, the defending champions, are entering their final season in the SFL and as a Division 1-AA school. The school begins Division 1-A competition in 2001.
