BRUNDIDGE ­ When visiting teams come into Bulldog Country, they may be a bit stunned by their surroundings.

Pike County High School coaches have been working since last football season on remodeling an old storage building into the new dressing rooms.

Assistant football coach Joseph Suber said coaches have supplied the labor to renovate what was originally the varsity and visiting dressing rooms so it can be used again for that purpose.

Suber said the building was used in the 1940s for dressing rooms, then became storage.

"The roof was falling down," Suber said of building’s condition when work began.

He said the coaching staff "stripped the whole building.

"What it boils down to is we did a $70,000 project for about $15,000," Suber said.

But, all the work wouldn’t have been possible without financial assistance from the booster club and donations, such as State Sen. Wendell Mitchell, D-Luverne, who presented $3,000 for the cause Monday afternoon.

"It’s unbelievable the amount of people who helped," Suber said.

In addition to roofing supplies, money has gone into building wooden lockers and other items needed in a locker room.

"We did it because it needed to be done," Suber said of taking on such a big project. "It (the building) was an eyesore and we needed the space."

The new facility will also have a coaches’ office.
