James Grady Edwards

James Grady "Jim" Edwards, 73, of Mexico Beach and formerly of Marianna, died on Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at his residence.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 17, 2000, at Lord Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Willie Butler officiating. Burial will follow at Carters Cemetery near Troy at 3 p.m. with Lord Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Buck and Karon Edwards of Dothan and Mike and Belinda Edwards of Goshen; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Sonny Basford of Grand Ridge; brother, Leonard Edwards of Ohio; six grandchildren, Shelly Edwards of Goshen, Tracy Nelson of Slocomb, Terry Nelson of Malvern, Jerry Basford of Grand Ridge, Brandi Goss and Kelli Edwards of Dothan; seven great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marian Cowart Edwards.

He was a native of Dothan and a retired supervisor at the Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy in the Pacific theatre. He was member of the Marianna Elks Lodge No. 1516.

The family will receive friends before the funeral on Saturday, June 17, 2000, at Lord Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Braxton E. Brand

Braxton E. Brand, 55, of Troy, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 16, 2000, at Skeen Funeral Home Chapel in Troy with Rev. Leslie Allen officiating. Burial will follow at the Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Skeen Funeral Home in Troy directing.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Brand of Troy; two sons, Braxton E. Brand of Troy and Robert Chandler of Eglin Air Force Base; five daughters, Tawana Ward of Union Springs, Anita Goodman of Montgomery, Janet Pribulick of Wetumpka, Norma Jean Brand of Tennessee, Wanda Marie Brand of Millbrook; two stepsons, Mark Evans and Chris Evans, both of Elmore County; two brothers, Jimmy Brand of Prattville and Bobby Brand of Verbena; one sister, Patricia Hollon of Prattville; 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Tereasa Brookshire.

Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Skeen Funeral Home in Troy.

Catherine Johnson Carter

Catherine Johnson Carter, 48, of Troy, died on Wednesday, June 14, 2000.

Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church Cemetery on Saturday, June 17, 2000, at 12 p.m.

Survivors include her mother, Cora Mae Johnson; husband, James Henderson Carter; three children, Cynthia Johnson, Greta (Tim) Ballard and Antonio Carter; five sisters, four brothers, two uncles, two aunts; a devoted sister-in-law; seven grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was born June 29, 1952, to Sammie and Cora Johnson. She was a 1973 graduate of Pike County High School and was a home maker. She was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.

Pallbearers for the service will be the brothers and nephews of the deceased. Floralbearers will be friends of the family.

Freddie Lee Parker

Freddie Lee Parker, 89, of Troy, died Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at her residence.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 17, 2000, at Pine Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. J.M. Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery with George F. Grubbs Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two daughters, Lee Artist Bennitt and Alma Owens of Hattiesburg, Miss.; one son, Charlie (Annie) Parker, also of Hattiesburg, Miss.; four stepchildren, Clemmie (Jack), Katherin Jane, Annie Laurel and Annie Mae, all of Florida.

She was born in Pike County on January 28, 1911. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and her hobbies included fishing and sewing.

Pallbearers for the service will be friends of the family. Honorary pallbearers will be family members and friends and floralbearers will be the church members.
