George Henry Carter, 97, of Cincinnati, Ohio died in Cincinnati.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2000 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Troy with the Rev. Bobby Cox officiating. Burial was at Macedonia C.M.E. in Goshen. Harrison Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was born in Pike County on June 19, 1902 to George and Gussie Carter.

Survivors include his wife, Flora Carter; two daughters, Ann Carter TIllman and her husband, Elisha, of Cincinnati, Bettye Carter Presley of Albuquerque, N.M. and one son, Dr. Robert V. Carter and his wife, Ollie, of Birmingham; grandchildren: Anthony (Christine) Tillman of Trenton, N.J., Adonica Jones (Tony) Parks of CIncinnati, Harlodine Carter (Milton) Williams of Charlotte, N.C., Jacqueline King Wright and Eddie King Sr. and seven great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

Friends of the family served as pallbearers and floralbearers.

Lela McLendon

Lela McLendon, 83, of Troy, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, at her residence.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2000, from Skeen Funeral Home Chapel in Troy with the Revs. Ken May and Craig Holmes officiating. Burial followed at Green Hills Memorial Park with Skeen Funeral Home of Troy directing.

Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Oliver of Troy, Jane Huston of Jacksonville, Ill., and Jeanette Wilson of Brundidge; one son, Robert McLendon of Lakeland, Fla.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Reynolds and Fleta Justice, both of Montgomery; several nieces and nephews.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Wiregrass Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Elizabeth Richburg Johnson

Elizabeth Richburg Johnson, 93, of Troy, died Thursday, June 8, 2000 at Pike Manor Health Care Center.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2000 at Skeen Funeral Home in Troy with the Revs. Earl Barron, David Holmes and Randall Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park with Skeen Funeral Home of Troy directing.

Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Cathy (Ann) Johnson of Elamville; one granddaughter and her husband, Cynthia Lynne Johnson Sullivan and David Sullivan of Northport; one grandson and his wife, Randall S. Johnson Jr. and Laura Mitchell Johnson of Slocomb; two great-grandchildren, David Christopher Quincey and Marc Anthony Sullivan; one brother-in-law, Hamil and Louise Johnson of Troy; and several nieces and nephews.

Johnson lived in Pike County all her life except for two years when she lived in Northport with her granddaughter. She attended Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church and Southside Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Truman Johnson, Anthony Johnson, Bill Furlow, Quincy Carter, Perry Sanders, George Capps and Dennis Harrell.

Eliza Williams

Eliza Williams, 91, of Brundidge died Friday, June 9, 2000. Funeral services and survivors will be announced by Bell’s Liptrot-Dawson Funeral Home in Brundidge.
