Roling, the owner of WTBF radio in Troy, said he was "humbled" to be selected for the honor.

Recipients of the Book of Golden Deeds award are chosen because of their community service and selected by a committee of Exchange Club members.

Through his radio station, Roling serves the community, making him an ideal person for the award.

"We are in our 55th year, at WTBF, as a community radio station," Roling told Exchange Club members on Thursday.

He’s proud of that fact since "the larger the market, the more these radio stations get away from the community."

Roling enjoys informing people as to what is going on in Troy and assisting groups in any way he can over the airwaves.

"The whole concept, we think, is if something is going on in the community, we should be a part of it," Roling said.

Although he was the one being honored, Roling told members of the civic club "Our community is better because of what groups like you do."

He reminded them "it’s all about the community" and what individuals can do to make it better.
