On Friday and Saturday of next weekend, one of Pike County’s native sons will give back to the community that he has known and loved most of his live.

New York Jets’ tightend Fred Baxter will be hosting an All-Star Charity Weekend with a number of events to help raise money for not only the Pike County High School training facility, but also the Pike County chapter of the American Cancer Society Foundation in conjunction with Relay For Life.

Friday, May 19, there will be a meet and greet at 6:40 p.m. at Trojan Arena on the TSU campus where Baxter and fellow Jets teammate Bryan Cox will make an appearance at the "Relay for Life."

From there, there will be a Celebrity Auction at Trojan Arena from 8 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. (tickets: $5) where numerous NFL and other professional athletes have donated memorabillia.

Items include a number of Jets jerseys, footballs and helmets all signed by NFL players and coaches.

On Saturday, May 20, Baxter and a large number of special guests from the world of professional sports will take part in three events.

Names of note include: Bryan Cox, Marvin Jones, Otis Smith, James Farrior, Jason Ferguson, Wayne Cherbet, Marcus Coleman, Brian Mullin, Robert Farmer, Jeff Ramson and Chris Hayes all of the New York Jets. Also attending will be Lorraine Miller of the WNBA, professional boxer Cynthia Lazano and Terrance Mathis of the Atlanta Falcons.

The entire group will take part in a celebrity Picnic (Tickets $5) at Bulldog Stadium on the Pike County campus from Noon till 4 p.m. Then, the group will blay in a Celebrity Basketball game at Trojan Arena (Tickets $10) with members of the community playing against the athletes from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m.

To wrap things up, the group will throw an All-Star After Party from 10:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. at the Holiday Inn, in Troy (Tickets $10). You must be 21 years of age to attend.

All the events can be paid for individually or you can take part in a ticket package for $20 allowing you to attend all events on both Friday and Saturday.

Tickets may be purchased at the Colonial Bank of Troy and Brundidge, First National Bank of Brundidge, Pike County High School, the Pike County Board of Education or at the door.
