Some of Pike County’s best golfers and some of its duffers will be teeing off on cancer Saturday at Trojan Oaks Golf Course on the campus of Troy State University.

Gibson & Carden, P.C. is sponsoring a "Scramble for Life" golf tournament to benefit the Pike County Relay for Life campaign.

Entry fee is $60 per person or $240 per team.

The entry fee includes 18 holes of golf, cart usage, lunch and course beverages.

Tee times have been set at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Jeff Cotton said slots are still available for both tee times and, if a golfer doesn’t have a team, the Gibson & Carden committee will "link" him or her up with one.

"The Scramble for Life is going to be a fun tournament and the proceeds are going to help in the fight against cancer," Cotton said. "We want to encourage all golfers to participate."

The tournament will be a four-person scramble in which each member of the team may hit a tee shot. The team then selects one of the tee shots from which to play. All members of the team hit from that position. This procedure is repeated until the ball is holed.

Gift certificates to Edwin Watts Golf Shop in Montgomery will be awarded to the three low scoring teams. First place will receive a $600 gift certificate, second place $400 and third place $200.

In addition, golfers will have opportunities to win prizes for closest to the pin and longest drives. There will be six closest to the pin prizes and 12 prizes for the longest drives. If a golfer is lucky enough to score a hole-in-one, he or she would win one of three prizes which have been designated for the par three holes – $25,000 in cash, donated by Gibson and Carden, a 2000 Nissan Altima donated by Troy Nissan and a Honda wheeler donated by Ward’s Yahama.

"Please help us in the fight against cancer and helping Pike County to reach the overall goal of $125,000," Cotton said.

To enter the scramble call Gibson and Carden at 566-2690. Entries will be accepted as late as Friday afternoon.
