The Charles Henderson High School golf team came up only five points shy of a first place win at the Troy Country Club Tuesday.

With a team score of 313 the Trojans placed second to a strong Class 6A Dothan team who notched a 308 overall.

Heath West, who is ranked No. 33 in the entire country, was the low medalist with a 71 on the day while Rory Murphy paced CHHS with a 74.

Other individual scorers for Charles Henderson were Eric Mitchell 76, Will Mills 81, Charles Mallalieu 82 and Blake Adams 85.

"It was a good strong showing for us I felt," CHHS head coach Kevin Watson said. "Right now I think we’re right on target to do well at sectionals. We’ve played some of the tougher 6A and 5A teams in the area and I feel like we measure up well."

The team 313 was enough to get past a 315 by Daleville and a 359 score by Eufaula. Northview had only three golfers competing which was not enough to place a score.

Next up for the Trojans is a couple of Thursday matches before heading to the team’s sectional on May 9.

CHHS travels to Fort Rucker this Thursday where they will face Carroll-Ozark, Daleville and Houston Academy. Then, next Thursday they will play at the Red Eagle in Eufaula against Eufaula, Valley and Rehobeth.

The team’s Class 5A sectional will be held in Mobile at Springhill College. There will be anywhere from 12 to 15 schools from the southern portion of the state competing as the Trojans hope to follow up last year’s second place performance that qualified them for the State Tournament.

This year the State Tournament will be held in Prattville at Capital Hill, a course on the Robert Trent Jones golf trail.
