The Pike County Board of Realtors has a real stake in Relay for Life this year.

For the first time, the board has posted a sign that signifies they are a Relay for Life team and, for that, they are very proud.

"Cancer has touched the lives of so many realtors in Pike County," said Pam Sanders, ERA Advantage Realty. "My father and sister have cancer so, for me, it’s very personal and it is for others, too. We all just felt that this is something we wanted to do."

The team has set a goal of $2,600 for one its biggest fund raising project, a go-cart raffle.

Carter Brothers Manufacturing Corp. of Brundidge generously donated one of its go-karts to the Pike County Board of Realtors and 3,000 tickets have been printed. Sanders said realistically that number could be sold.

The drawing for the go-kart will be held during the Relay for Life event May 19.

The realtors also have planned a gospel singing May 13 at Swindall’s Campground. Admission will be free but donations will be greatly appreciated.

Sanders said refreshments will be available and will include soft drinks, finger foods and sweet treats.

The featured gospel artists will be the Glory Land Singers, the Melody Masters, Gary Shaw, Higher Reach and Derrick Snellgrove.

"We really wanted to be involved in Relay for Life this year and we plan to have a tent at Relay and are looking forward to all of the activities planned for that night," Sanders said. "We hope to reach and pass the goal that we have set for our first Relay team and we believe we will."

Tickets for a chance on the Carter Go-Kart are $1 each and also may be bought in a book of 10.

The tickets are available at all real estate offices in Troy and Taylor Realty in Brundidge.

Sanders said the real estate agencies are not in competition in selling the tickets. They are all pulling together to help in the fight against cancer.
