Jammers win home run duel

The New York Life Jammers and The Messenger Lugnuts battled in a home run derby Thursday.

With seven runs in the fourth, the Jammers got the 10-6 win with three homers hit by both teams.

Kayla Barnes broke things open with her grand slam in the fourth while teammate Brittany Knotts got the pitching win as well as the other homer for the Jammers with a two-run shot in the first. Knotts also struck out 11 and gave up only three hits in the complete game victory.

One of the hits went to Keyani Foster who notched the third home run of the day. Courtney Kelley and Kinsey Reynolds also had hits for the Lugnuts. Erica Henderson and Kayla Foreman also had hits for the Jammers.

Bay Bears 9, Crocs 1

In other Angel League action, the TSU Dinning Services Bay Bears got a 9-1 victory over the Crocs behind a five-inning complete game pitched by Jill Jennings. She accounted for 13 of the 15 outs through strike outs.

The Crocs got hits out of Bobbie Jo Strother, Brittany Green and Shatae Martin. The Bay Bears had a grand slam by Marley Hughes, a double by Jennings and hits by Julie Money, Marlie Wilkes, Tiffany Upshaw and Rebecca McKenzie.

Jammers 10, Volcanoes 2

The Beard Oil Jammers scored in every inning in a 10-2 win over the PikNIk Products Volcanoes.

Whitney Johnson got the complete-game win with 13 strike outs and only one hit allowed. The Jammers got a triple out of Eden Stamey and singles out of Jordan Barnette, Kimberly Collins, Johnson, April Headley and Suzanne Ventress. Brittany Hagler got the only Volcanoes’ hit.
