face talented teams in tournament

Charles Henderson baseball has had its ups and downs as of the past week or so.

The knowledge that the team had broke into the Alabama Class 5A/4A Top 10 at the No. 5 spot seemed like a good thing at the time and a well-deserved reward, but since that time CHHS has fallen on hard times.

The next thing they know CHHS head coach Steve Garrett and his squad have lost three of their last four games capped by a 6-0 shutout Saturday at the hands of rival Stanhope Elmore.

One thing about the Trojans’ schedule, however, they don’t have time to dwell on the past and coming this week, they won’t have much time to dwell on anything, but which powerhouse they will have to face next.

CHHS is taking part in the Montgomery Tournament Wednesday, Thursday and Friday along with George Washington Carver, Jeff Davis, Geneva County and Demopolis.

Two of the teams have also recently found themselves ranked in the state’s polls. Jeff Davis comes in with a No. 4 ranking in the Class 6A poll while Geneva County nabbed a No. 8 ranking for their good start in Class 2A.

Add a 6A Carver team and a 5A Demopolis team to the mix and all those involved will have a tough week on the diamond playing at least four games in two days and a championship game being played on Friday.

Jeff Davis will be the only team in the tournament that the Trojans have locked horns with so far this season in an 11-4 loss.

Charles Henderson will face Carver at 5 p.m. and Jeff Davis at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. They will then match up with Geneva County at 3 p.m. and Demopolis at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
