With a new No. 2 State ranking in their pocket, the Charles Henderson Lady Trojan softball team flexed it muscles Tuesday in a 13-3 win over Carroll at home.

The Lady Trojans sent three pitchers to the mound during the game starting with Betsy White who mowed down six of seven batters on strikes in only two innings of work. White then gave way to Ashley Faust in the third while Kelly Miller took over in the top of the sixth.

After a slow start that notched only four runs in the first three innings, Carroll made a game of it in the top of the fourth scoring three on a single, a triple and two CHHS errors. The Lady Trojan defense settled down, however and allowed no more runs the rest of the way.

In their half of the fifth, the Charles Henderson girls put the game out of reach from the plate. The Lady Trojans sent 11 up to bat in the inning and got a double out of Christie Bradley and singles out of Amanda Floyd, Christine Haug, Amanda Pruitt and Faust. Miller highlighted the inning with a base-clearing triple down the right-field line.

Then, after a quick sixth inning for Carroll, the Lady Trojans got a long double that hit the top of the center field fence – missing the round-tripper by about a foot. That led to the game-ending score as a grounder to third by Jennifer Boutwell was thrown over the first baseman’s head ending the game on the 10-run rule.

Miller, Faust and Bradley led the team at the plate with Miller going 2-for-3 with the triple and Faust and Bradley going 2-for-4.

Next up for the Lady Trojans is a date with AL Christian in Montgomery Thursday. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
