A Troy woman is behind bars in the Pike County Jail after filing a false report of a robbery.
Wednesday night, Tonya Mitchell, 32, reported she had been robbed at gunpoint by a black male who entered her vehicle when she got out to purchase cigarettes and gas at the 87 Chevron in the Spring Hill area.
Mitchell went into the store and asked the clerk to call for help because she had allegedly been threatened with a pistol at approximatley 11:46 p.m.
Based on an investigation of the scene and information given by Mitchell, it was later determined that the reported offense was unfounded, Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas said.
"By her own admission, she stated that she was in the area allegedly to buy crack cocaine and had fabricated the story," Thomas said.
Mitchell was charged with falsely reporting an incident. Bond was set at $1,000.
