The Troy State baseball team was able to score nine runs in the eighth inning to pull out a 16-11 hit-fest against Austin Peay Tuesday.

The win was the Trojans fourth in five games and evens up their record at 4-4 on the young season.

Troy State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first and added to it in the fifth until Austin Peay got after TSU starting pitcher Cale Wright in the bottom of the fifth belting in four runs.

The sixth inning saw more of the same as TSU regained the lead 5-4 only to lose it again giving up three on defense.

With two runs in the seventh the Trojans tied the game at 7-7 and then blew up in the eighth to seal the win.

TSU batters had a field day at the plate belting 19 hits on the day while four seperate Troy State pitchers gave up 10.

Casey Smith led the Trojan at the plate going 5-for-6 with a double, a home run and four RBI’s on the day while both Todd Lancaster and Derrel Kirkland went 3-for-5. Foy Shemwell finished 4-for-6 on the day with two doubles.

Kevin Hall got the win for the Trojans who will play Austin Peay again tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
