A big crowd is expected for the Chancellor’s Gala being held Saturday night to honor Troy State University’s leader.
Between 8:30 and 11:30 p.m., those with tickets can dance to the music of Ray Smith and his 19-piece jazz orchestra at the Ralph Wyatt Adams Armory.
The event is being held to commemorate Dr. Jack Hawkins’ 10th anniversary at Troy State’s helm.
"It’s going to be a huge success," said Johnny Long, chairman of the Chancellor’s Gala committee.
Long said this gives the school a chance to honor Hawkins and raise money for the band program. Money raised from the ticket sales will go to purchase uniforms for the Sound of the South Marching Band.
Tickets, which are $100 per couple, are still available from members of the Chancellor’s Gala committee. The tickets are tax deductible.
Committee members are: Long, Mike Amos, Joyce Austin, Alan Boothe, George Corradino, Debbie Davis, Cheryl DiChiara, Sara Lee Dunbar, Martha Lynn Ellis, Marsha Gaylard, Sandi Gouge, Bill Hopper, Mary Lynn Long, Jim Roling, William Sanford, John Schmidt, Ray Walker, Faith Ward, Tony Whetstone, Ann Williams and Mary Ida Williams.
Long said tickets will also be available at the door.
"We want everyone to come and enjoy it all," Long said of the festivities.
Attire for the event is casual to formal.
