Wreck claims life of Union Springs man

A Saturday morning accident in Pike County claimed the life of a Union Springs man.

Michael Ray Shelley, 29, was killed when the car he was driving ran off Pike County Road 137, 15 miles south of Union Springs.

According to the Alabama State Troopers, Shelley’s vehicle left the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned at approximately 5:30 a.m.

Shelley was not wearing a seat belt, Troopers said.

The cause of the one-vehicle accident is under investigation.

Three others died on Alabama roadways over the weekend.

Jean Gary Hamilton, 72, of Hamilton died in an accident on Alabama 19, two miles south of Hamilton. The two-vehicle accident occurred at approximately 4:55 p.m. Sunday when one vehicle pulled out in front of the other.

Kennedy Edward Lee, 30, of Atlanta was killed when his vehicle left the road and overturned Sunday morning in Wilcox County. That accident occurred around 1 a.m. on Alabama 28, five miles west of Camden.

A 23-year-old Bremen man was also killed when his vehicle left the roadway Saturday night in Cullman County.

Trinity Jewell’s vehicle struck and embankment at approximately 9:34 p.m. on Cullman County Road 1224, six miles north of West Point.

According to Troopers, none of the accident victims were wearing seat belts.
