Atilla Ege Serim, 25, of Izmir, Turkey was killed in a one-vehicle accident that occurred at the corner of University Avenue and Folmar Street. It was reported at approximately 4 a.m., said Sgt. Benny Scarbrough, public information officer for the Troy Police Department.

Serim was transported to Edge Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Tom Davis, of TSU public relations, said two Troy State students performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Serim until emergency personnel arrived on the scene.

He said Serim’s parents have been notified and the university is making arrangements to return the body to Turkey.

Davis said the international students of Troy State want to hold a memorial service for their friend. It is scheduled Monday at 3 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy.

Viewing will begin at 1:30 p.m., and transportation will be provided for students beginning at 1:30 at Pace Hall/Rotary International Center.
