Jamaal Holt: (DL – 6-1, 265,) At Quincy, Fla./Shanks earned first team All-State, All-County, All-Big Bend and All-District at defensive lineman. A 3-year starter, Holt made 24 sacks over last two seasons and ranks in the top 10 in his class (3.8 GPA).

Michael Jackson: (LB – 5-11, 210) A two-time All-State selection from Quincy, Fla./Shanks, Jackson recorded over 300 career tackles, 144 in 1999. He was All-District, Gadsden Co. Defensive Player of the Year and was rated among the top 100 players in Florida by Bill Buckhalter. He carries a 3.86 GPA.

Danny Young: (LB – 5-11, 215) Also from Quincy, Fla./Shanks, will join his brother Donny who played as a true freshman for the Trojans in 1999. Played in just six games due to injury, but he registered 95 tackles and two interceptions in being named All-County and All-District.

Chris Day: (WR – 6-1, 185) Missed two games in 1999 at Wenonah H.S. in Ala. due to injury, Hill caught 22 passes for 230 yards and six touchdowns. He also had 30 rushes for 300 yards.

Freeman White: (DB – 5-9, 175) Made 35 tackles with 20 assists, four tackles for loss, three interceptions, nine pass breakups and a 15.8 punt return average at Wenonah H.S. in Ala..

Shawn Allen: (DB – 6-2, 189) Was nominated for the Georgia/Florida All-Star game out of LaGrange, Ga./Troup Co. For his career, he had 287 tackles, six interceptions, eight caused fumbles and six recoveries, along with 1,008 yards rushing. He is a three-time All-Area pick of the LaGrange Daily News and Valley Times News. He is a two-time member of the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer All-Chatahoochee Valley team

Desmond Gilliam (DE – 6-5, 195) Also out of LaGrange, Ga./Troup Co., is a three-time All-Area pick of the LaGrange Daily News and Valley Times News, and a 1999 member of the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer AII-Chatahoochee Valley team. For his career, Gilliam had 173 tackles, 10 caused fumbles, four recoveries and seven sacks in 30 starts.

Kenneth Alexander: (FB – 6-2, 260) He played on both sides of the ball at Gadsden, Ala., recording 135 tackles, three sacks, seven fumble recoveries and three INT’s, while rushing for 846 yards on 178 carries with 14 touchdowns.

Ivan Peoples: (DT – 6-2, 300) Helped lead Gadsden, Ala., to a 12-2 record with 98 tackles, 10 sacks, 24 quarterback hurries and five fumble recoveries.

Derrick Ansley: (FS – 6-2, 175) Joins the Trojans from Tallassee (Ala.) High School. Was first team All-State, All-Area and All-Metro, as well as the Montgomery Advertiser Defensive Player of the Year. He picked off 12 passes leading his team to a 13-1 record. As a quarterback, he threw for 930 yards and rushed for 400.

Hansell Bearden: (QB – 6-1, 190) From Cairo (Ga.) High School. He threw for 1,500 yards as a senior throwing for 27 touchdowns, while rushing for 422 yards.

Brian Bester: (WR – 6-5, 185) Out of Taylorsville (Miss.) H.S. He had 44 catches for 750 yards and six touchdowns in 1999 eaming first team, 2A All-State and All-Area honors. For his career, Bester caught 80 passes for 1,450 yards and 13 touchdowns. All-District mention over the last two seasons.

Donnie Bostian: (OL – 6-6, 305) Was All-State and All-Middle Georgia on the offensive line for Warner Robbins (Ga.) High School. He graded 82 percent for his senior year.

Andrew Cyganiewicz: (WR – 6-2, 180) Out of Wheeler High School in Marietta, Ga. He caught 68 passes in 1999 for over 900 yards and four touchdowns. He caught 18 passes for 474 yards and five scores He was first team All-Cobb County and 6A All-Academic.

Robby Farmer: (LB – 6-2, 210) Out of Hayden (Ala.) High School. He made 158 tackles with five interceptions and eight fumble recoveries on defense, while rushing for 794 yards on 181 carries scoring eight touchdowns. He was named All-Blount County.

Branden Hall: (OL – 6-4, 300) Was a three-year starter on both sides of the ball at Auburn (Ala.) High School. A first team All-Area setection, the offensive lineman graded 91 percent for his senior year.

Andy Harris: (DT – 6-3, 300) Out of Eufaula (Ala.) High School. A three year starter, he eamed first team All State mention with 52 tackles

Drew Ingram: (K – 5-8, 165) Out of Simpson County Academy in Florence, Miss. He made 35 PATs in 1999 hitting a long field goal of 52 yards. He averaged 42.6 yards per punt. Offensively, he had 1463 all-purpose yards with 13 TDs leading the squad with 137 points. On defense, Boteler made 38 tackles with three interceptions and one fumble recovery. He was the District 3AAA Offensive MVP, All-State MPSA and will play in the Mississippi North/South All-Star Classic.

Jordan Lesley: (LB – 6-3, 225) Out of Itawamba High School in Fulton, Miss. In 1999, he recorded 160 tackles with 11 sacks, two fumble recoveries and one interception. A second team 4A All-State selection, he will play in the Mississippi North/South game and is his division’s Defensive Player of the Year. He made 380 tackles during his career.

Chad Lucas: (WR – 6-2, 175) Out of Booker T. Washington High School in Tuskegee, Ala. He caught 62 passes for 1,100 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 two-point conversions. For his career, he caught 101 passes for 1,637 yards. This past season, Lucas was a first team All-Area selection and team captain

Lee Milliner: (OL – 6-2, 270) Comes to TSU from Enterprise (Ala.) High School. The offensive lineman was a two-year starter at EHS eaming All-State and All-Super 12 honors. He carries a 3.5 GPA and plays on the EHS baseball team.

Neal Oates, Jr.: (RB – 5-11, 185) Out of Florala (Ala.) High School. He ran for 2,260 yards in 1999 scoring 36 touchdowns, while recording 3,231 all-purpose yards. The student body president also made 108 solo tackles, 30 assists, five sacks and two interceptions. He eamed All-State, All-Covington County and All-Area, while being named a finalist for Mr. Football honors. The Covington Co. MVP finished in the all-time top 10 for rushing in Alabama.

Cedric Phillips: (DE – 6-3, 230) Out of Handley High School in Roanoke, Ala. He was first team All-Area and Valley Area. He graded at 90 percent at tight end and made 70 tackJes at defensive end with one blocked punt.

Jermaine Richardson: (RB – 5-10, 180) was the 1999 Northwest Florida Player of the Year out of Penscola High School. For his career, the running back recorded 4,500 yards with 52 touchdowns in three seasons. He also retumed two kickoffs for scores.

Jansen Samuel: (WR – 5-8 165) Out of T.R. Miller High School in Brewton, Ala. An honorable mention All-State selection, Samuel caught 28 passes for 624 yards (27.3 ypc) with six touchdowns. He averaged 36.8 yards per kickoff return and 12.2 yards per punt return.

Henry Tellis: (OL – 6-5, 310) From Sidney Lanier High School. A three-year starter, he helped lead his team to the 6A semifinals. First team All-State and All-Metro pick grading 85 percent or better in every game on the season.

Eric Thomas: (DT – 6-1, 250) Out of Westlake H.S. in Atlanta, Ga. He recorded 60 tackles with 45 assists, 19 tackles for loss, seven sacks and two caused fumbles in being named to the All-County team.
