Goshen’s Rogers named to South All-Star team
Averick Rogers, a senior at Goshen High School, has been selected to participate in the North-South All-Star Basketball game during the fifth annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week in Montgomery on July 16-21.
Rogers is just one of 48 of the top upcoming senior basketball players that will make up the North and South girls and boys team rosters. The four teams will take center stage in a Thursday night doubleheader, tipping off with the girls game at 6 p.m. at the Auburn University-Montgomery Physical Education Complex. The boys contest will begin at 8 p.m.
Rogers, who will also be the starting quarterback for the Goshen football team in the fall, is the second consecutive Eagle basketball player to play in the North-South All-Star game. Last July, departed senior Jamar Tucker was also was named to the South roster.
Rogers, along with Tucker, helped lead the Eagles to the Class 2A Final Four in Birmingham last season. Goshen finished the year 23-3.
Joining Rogers on the South roster are: Kennedy Winston (Blount), Charles Davis (Southside-Selma), Brandon Addision (Tallassee), Quincy Davis (McGill-Toolen), Montrice Brooks (Central-Phenix City), John Watters (Maplesville), Andrae Leslie (Andalusia), Eldrick Lewis (Calhoun), Catavious Davis (Stanhope-Elmore), John Hickenbottom (B.C. Rain) and Jamall Edmondson (Jeff Davis).
Coaches for the South team will be Lorenzo Hunter of Baldwin County, Jim Hunter of Calhoun and Tony Stallworth (administrative) of Brantley.
Sports Week, which also includes in-state all-star games in volleyball, baseball, football and softball, will feature clinic and special sessions for coaches, athletic directors, cheerleader coaches and officials. A product exposition and other related activities are scheduled throughout the week.
