The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans made it look easy picking up their third Area win over Wetumpka Tuesday night.

The CHHS defense was aggressive from the first play of the game charging off to an early lead and finishing off the Lady Indians with a 49-18.

They held the Indians to only three points through the entire first quarter, and only allowed two points in the third quarter. They forced 27 turnovers throughout the game.

Coach Dyneshia Jones said they have really been working on defense a lot in the past two to three weeks.

"They did a very good job tonight."said Jones. "We started out playing a lot of real good teams, this game kind of boosted their confidence level up, even the bench did good."

Clarissa Parker led the team with 18 points and eight rebounds. Kelly Miller added to the win with 10 points and nine assists, while teammate Jessica Youngblood ended up with 11 points for the night.

The Charles Henderson varsity boy’s game was an exciting one with the score remaining tight from start to finish.

For the second time this year CHHS grabbed an area win over Wetumpka, this time by a closer score of 55-52.

The Trojans were a little rusty to start, letting the Indians get ahead on an 8-0 run and not putting any points on the board until the 5:54 mark.

Corey Gillis got things started offensively for the Trojans with a free throw then hit a jumper starting a small Charles Henderson rally.

They continued to close in on the Indians cutting their lead to one at the end of the first quarter. The Trojans tied up the score twice soon after and just before the half scored four points to pull ahead by six.

At the beginning of the second half, the lead changed four times, but the Trojans ended up taking a 42-38 lead into the game’s final frame.

The Trojans managed to stay ahead the entire fourth quarter while the Indians made a run at the end hitting two 3-pointers in the last minute. It was not enough, however, to get by the determined Trojans.

Next up for Charles Henderson is another area matchup as they travel to Stanhope to face the Mustangs on Tuesday.

Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. for the B-team with the two varsity games following.
