This weekend there will be two opportunities to respond to those needs.

Troy-Pike Habitat for Humanity will be holding its annual Coat Sale from 7 until 10 a.m. Saturday in the Winn Dixie parking lot on Highway 231. Coats of all sizes for adults and children will be available at very reasonable prices.

It’s not too late to make a donation to the coat sale. Dropoffs can be made at WTBF on the square in downtown Troy from 8 a.m until 5 p.m today. Pickups are available by calling 566-1392.

Everyone is encouraged to pull out those coats the children (or adults) have outgrown and donate them to this very worthwhile cause.

Another opportunity to help those in need is being offered by the TSU Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

Last Saturday members of the fraternity and several of the TSU sororities went door-to-door delivering bags for canned food donations for the fraternity’s "Brothers Feeding Others" food drive.

Saturday, the young men and women will be out again collecting those bags which they hope will be filled with non-perishable food items.

If some houses were missed and residents would like to contribute to the food drive, items can be placed in a sack and hung on the door for pickup by the fraternity.

Last year, Lambda Chi Alpha collected two million pounds of food nationwide to feed those in need. The TSU fraternity has set a goal of 10,000 pounds for its chapter this year.

The food items will be delivered to the Department of Human Resources for distribution when needs arise.
