Joe Lenon Johnson Sr., 73, of Philadelphia, died Friday, October 29, 1999 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the DeBaptiste Funeral Home, Worthington & Miner Streets, West Chester, Pa.

Mr. Johnson was born July 14, 1925 in Pike County, the son of the late Joe Frank Johnson and Esther Berry Johnson.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and received the war’s Victory Medal.

Upon discharge from the service, he moved to West Chester and resided there in the 1950s. He moved to Philadelphia in 1958.

Mr. Johnson retired from Phoeniz Iron and Steel where he had been employed as a forklift operator for 30 years when the plant closed in 1987.

Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl M. Harden of Chester; two brothers, L.J. Johnson Sr., of Chicago and Thomas Johnson Sr. of Pittsburgh; one sister, Annie P. Croswell of Troy; an aunt, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren
