Allie Mae Grider

Allie Mae Grider, 85, of Gulfport, Miss., formerly of Troy, died Sunday, August 29, 1999 at Lakeview Nursing Home in Gulfport, Miss.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 1, 1999, at the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Troy with the Rev. Michael "Ted" Smith and the Rev. J. Merrick Henry officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park in Troy, Ala., with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing.

She was preceded in death by her husband the Rev. George L. Grider.

Survivors include two daughters, Thelma McBride of Gulfport, Miss.; Lenora Hancock of Troy; one son, George L. Grider of Elba; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jason Grider, Dr. Gregg McBride, Larry Hancock, Brett Anderson, Brian Snyder and Eldridge Bracknell.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Alabama Baptist Childrens Home.

Visitation will be held between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 31, 1999, at Dillard Funeral Home of Troy.

Sam E. Price

Sam E. Price, 78, of Wilmington, N.C., died Friday, August 27, 1999, at home after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 30, 1999, at 2 p.m. at Winter Park Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, N.C. A memorial service will be held at Pea River Presbyterian Church in Clio, Ala., at 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 1, 1999.

He was born on November 8, 1921, in Louisville, Alabama, son of the late William Ezra Price and Henrietta Barbaree Price McRae. He was a member of Winter Park Presbyterian Church of Wilmington. He was employed with Allied Chemical and later worked for Carver Machine Works as a sales representative. He served as a glider pilot in the Army Air corps during WWII. He was a coach and teacher in the Barbour County School System and an agent for Liberty National Insurance. He had a love of baseball and was a manager and player in the Conecuh River League.

He was preceded in death by his brother James Harvey McRae.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jane Stewart Price; and four children, William Stewart Price and wife Sallie of Wilmington; Nancy Price Jewell and husband Douglas C. Jewell III of Kernersville, N.C.; Joseph King Price and wife Lesia of Evans, Ga.; and Mark Samuel Price and wife Nadalynn of Carthage, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Ryan Quinn Price and wife Debra of San Diego, Calif.; Douglas, Matthew and Jane Jewell of Kernersville, N.C.; Carrie and Megan Price of Evans, Ga.; Kyle Hensley of Evans, Ga.; and Alaina Price of Carthage, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Kristen and Ashley Price of San Diego, Calif.; a brother, William Mack Price and wife Jane of Eufaula; four sisters, Lillian Kettler of Mobile, Ann Sibert and husband L.N. of Eufaula; Sara Tillman and Jean Hartzog and husband Ergle of Clio; a brother-in-law Richard Stewart and wife Janet of Troy, Mich.; 22 nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Salvation Army.
