Troy is 2-1 (0-1 Sun Belt) coming off a loss to Arkansas State on the road and faces another tough test away from home against Mississippi State.

The Trojans have played solid defense in the first three game but now they face their biggest test. While MSU is still looking to replace some key parts offensively, quarterback Tyler Russell turns in a strong performance as the Bulldogs offensive line is able to give him ample amount of time to throw the ball.

MSU takes a quick 21-0 lead over Troy but the Trojans aren’t out of it yet. A great catch by Eric Thomas leads to a big gain and eventually a score by Troy. Three plays into Mississippi State’s next drive, Mark Wilson comes up with a fumble setting Troy up for another score, this time a run by Michael Lindsey.

The Bulldogs slow things down in the second quarter but Troy’s defense holds allowing just a field goal. The Trojans enter halftime down 24-14.

The third quarter is a slow one but MSU adds another field goal to make it 27-14 heading into the fourth.

With a field goal, Will Scott caps a nice drive led by Corey Robinson and a steady dose of short- to mid-range passes. K.D. Edenfield and Chandler Worthy make key receptions and Khary Franklin breaks off a big run on the drive.

With the Trojans trailing 27-17 late in the game, Chris Davis comes up with a clutch interception. Robinson leads Troy down the field but on fourth and six, the Trojans decide to go for the conversion instead of attempting the long field goal. The pass attempt is batted down and Mississippi State escapes Troy for the second consecutive year.

RESULT: Troy LOSES MSU is a hard fought contest, 27-17.

STAT OF THE GAME: Chris Davis 4 tackles, 2 BU, 1 INT
