Alabama GOP Chairman Terry Latham is a straight-shooter.

She didn’t hesitate in telling the Pike County Republican Women that Donald J. Trump be the next president of the United States.

Latham was the guest speaker at the Wednesday meeting of Pike County Republican Women. She is one of a fist-full of women who head state Republican parties. She has attended six Republican National Conventions but this time, she is “confident we will win.”

“We are going to the convention a united party,” she said. “We are going to walk out of the convention a united party and we will win the election.”

Although some would say that Donald Trump is not a conservative, Latham said Trump’s list of 11 justices he would consider nominating for the vacant seat on the United States Supreme Court are all conservatives.

“He has been endorsed by the NRA,” Latham said. “He would surely pick a conservative as his running mate. Donald Trump is already putting a transition team in place. He’s not waiting until November 8 to do that. He’s putting a team together right now. Donald Trump will pick smart people. This gentleman does not play.”

Latham said the present administration has “slap worn America out.”

“Voters will go to the polls in November ‘battling for the soul of the nation’,” she said.

“What we are fighting for matters. We mean business. We’re tired and we’ve had enough.”

Latham was asked by a member of the audience how Trump would stand up to foreign pressure. Latham said the current U.S. president has respected “wicked leaders” and called ISIS a JV team.

“ISIS, a junior varsity team, really?” she asked. “Donald Trump will draw a line in the sand. Obama doesn’t draw lines in the sand because he doesn’t want to do anything. Donald Trump will draw a line in the sand and say, ‘Don’t cross it.’”

In speaking about Alabama politics, Latham said there are internal politics and external politics.

“Internal politics is about a mission, about getting our message out, about building an infrastructure to win races,” she said. “In the March primary, 860,000 Republicans voted compared to 398,000 Democrats. There’s a movement going on in the state.”

Latham said the people of Alabama are donating money to build an infrastructure necessary to win races.

“The Alabama Republican Party is big, loud, noisy,” she said. “There was a time when nobody wanted to hear what we had to say. Now, people are listening because of our principles. The principles of the Republican Party are why we exist. The Alabama Republican Party has never been stronger, never had more financial resources. ”

Latham said voters are the external politics.

“As Republicans, we may be a big, loud opinionated state but being quiet is to be insignificant,” she said.  “We will not accept bad choices. On November 8, voters will make a decision to keep going the way we’re going or go a different way.”

Hillary Clinton represents “the way we are going, and Donald Trump represents a different and better way.”
