Disappointment could be felt throughout the team huddle Monday after the Troy 13-and-under Dixie Boys All-Stars lost a gut-wrenching game to Dothan 10-5.

“You can’t give a good team outs and we had a couple of miscues,” head coach Frank Scarbrough said. He believes his team did not play a bad game and had a few moments where they looked really good.

He said the one thing that hurt his team was not being patient at the plate.

“We swung at some high pitches and we have to do a better job of being patient at the plate and putting a bat on pitches that are hittable pitches,” he said. “We helped their starting pitcher out quite a bit at the plate with all the strikes.”

Dothan scored the first run on the game in the first inning and led 1-0. The score remained unchanged until the fifth inning, where they scored five more runs and led 6-0.

Noah Lowery gave Troy hope with a double in the bottom of the fifth inning. The next batter Trevor Barron brought Lowery home off a hit back to the pitcher that was bobbled and the Troy dugout came alive.

The Dixie Boys brought in three more runs and trailed 6-4 at the bottom of the fifth. Dothan answered by scoring two runs in the sixth and two more runs in the seventh innings.

Troy could not generate another run until Tyrrell Jones hit a home run to right field in the bottom of the seventh. He also struck out seven batters in five innings of pitching and tallied one RBI.

“A big difference in the game was they were a lot more patient than we were they made us throw to them and they didn’t bite on many pitches and worked the count in their favor,” he said.

Scarbrough told his team after the game that this game is over and they have to leave this game behind them. The Dixie Boys will take on Enterprise Tuesday on Field 6 at Troy Parks and Recreation Center. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
