Arts patron issues $10K challenge

A patron of the arts who wishes to remain anonymous is once again offering to match membership contributions to the Johnson Center for the Arts up to $10,000.

“Last year a donor came forward and offered to match membership contributions and we answered the challenge and received a very generous donation of $10,000,” said Vicki Pritchett, Johnson Center executive director. “The donor offered the same challenge this year and we are excited to have this opportunity.”

However, the membership contributions must be recorded by Sept. 30 to tally.

“We are really pushing this fundraising opportunity as part of our ‘New Decade of Vision,’ which will enable us to become a true cultural arts center,” Pritchett said. “We need all of the financial support we can get to make things happen like we want them to.”

Pritchett said the Johnson Center for the Arts has new levels of membership for the year October 2014 through October 2015.

Members Circle memberships are: Benefactor, $500; Friends of the Arts, $250; Family, $100; and Individual, $30.

Sponsors Circle memberships are: Platinum, $5,000; Gold, $2,500; and Silver, $1,000.

“We will also offered corporate sponsorships in amounts greater than the Sponsors Circle Platinum memberships,” Pritchett said.

The Johnson Center for the Arts is one of the few, if any, cultural arts centers that offer free admission.

“The founding board of the Troy-Pike Cultural Arts Center wanted admission to the Johnson Center to be free,” Pritchett said. “In order to do so, we have to depend on memberships, donations, grants and fundraising for operating costs. So, if we raise $20,000 through the membership drive and the generous donation of a patron, we will be extremely pleased and grateful.”
