An early-morning wreck sent one person to the hospital and reduced U.S. Highway 231 South to one lane Monday. The two-vehicle collision happened at around 6:30 a.m. near County Road 5520 and Outdoor Power Equipment.

John Stone got an early start on his return home to Florida. He was traveling south in a Hyundai Santa Fe when a woman driving a Ford Expedition crossed his path.

“She was headed north,” said Stone. “Officers tell me somebody pulled out in front of her and she swerved to miss him and got me.”

The collision sent Stone off the road. The SUV flipped at least once before landing on its side. Stone was trapped until Troy EMS and Firefighters reached the scene.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and suffered minor injuries. Stone had a bit of back pain and the other driver was taken to Troy Regional Medical Center.

U.S. Highway 231 South remained partially blocked for at least an hour.
